Replacing a favourite or trying something new?

For a replacement, match the full name, edition and EDT or EDP label on your current bottle. For a new men’s fragrance, use its listed notes as a starting point and compare those with scents you already enjoy. The brand alone does not tell you how a fragrance will smell.

02 · Format & size

Compare like for like

Eau de toilette (EDT), eau de parfum (EDP), parfum and perfume oil are different formats. Check the exact label and whether the product is a spray or another applicator. Compare prices between the same edition and concentration before choosing a bottle size.

A smaller bottle can mean a lower initial spend. A larger bottle may cost less per millilitre—check the actual prices rather than assuming it does.

Questions to help you choose

Is eau de toilette or eau de parfum better for men?

Choose the version you prefer rather than treating EDP as an automatic upgrade. EDT and EDP editions can have different scent profiles. Compare the exact edition, listed notes and price; the concentration label alone is not a guarantee of how long a fragrance will last.

How should I use the listed fragrance notes?

Use the notes as clues when comparing fragrances you already know and enjoy. A shared note does not mean two perfumes smell the same, and a note list cannot replace trying the fragrance. Where notes are unavailable, check the description and exact edition rather than guessing from the bottle.

How do I compare different bottle sizes?

Compare the same fragrance and concentration. Divide each price by its millilitres for a price-per-ml comparison. For example, £40 for 50ml is 80p per ml; £60 for 100ml is 60p per ml. These are examples, not current product offers.
